“Shaun, I learn from other reliable sources that GATP is not developed by SAP but acquired from another person/company who is now on board of SAP. You can re-assure. I think much of GATP is made complex because of lack of examples in F1 though F1 itself is amply explained at field level but dependencies are not or are difficult to imagine. The simplest of phenomenon like when does a GATP create sub items can be often confusing. A myriad combination of settings is responsible for creating sub-items other than the setting create sub-items in check instructions. Add to this certain controls provided in config. like pre-selection are too confusing to interpret. The location determination procedure type in conjunction with rule control is another topic of significant complexity when it comes to result interpretation. Add to this the cryptic “source determination” functionalities added in location determination activity and the associated profile and parameters for controlling the results of a check with rules. I think some 10 odd worst case sales and purchase and production scenarios that need ATP check for confirmation can explain the whole logic by starting from results and explaining it all the way backwards to configuration and master data set-up. Since the end objective is to arrive at a qualified location and qualified product, the GATP trainers should start from there. GATP is practically very useful and definitely adds to fulfillment improvement and customer service metrics, using obsolete products first and consuming products that are no longer needed and such and this is no mean task without an application like GATP.
