Text Introduction (Skip if You Watched the Video)

It is curious, through our research, and in area after area, we have arrived at the exact opposite conclusion from Gartner and Forrester. It is almost as if one could benefit from doing the exact opposite of whatever Gartner and Forrester recommend. One reason for this may be that Gartner and Forrester and even IDC, which is explained in the article The Problem with How Gartner Makes its Money, These faux research entities are captured by the largest vendors and consulting firms. And therefore, their conclusions are based upon these vendors’ commercial influence rather than based upon any research. Join us as we cover how this Gartner functions similarly to Fox News.

Notice of Lack of Financial Bias: You are reading one of the only independent sources on Gartner. If you look at the information software vendors or consulting firms provide about Gartner, it is exclusively about using Gartner to help them sell software or consulting services. None of these sources care that Gartner is a faux research entity that makes up its findings and has massive financial conflicts. The IT industry is generally petrified of Gartner and only publishes complementary information about them. The article below is very different.

  • First, it is published by a research entity, not an unreliable software vendor or consulting firm that has no idea what research is.
  • Second, no one paid for this article to be written, and it is not pretending to inform you while being rigged to sell you software or consulting services as a vendor or consulting firm that shares their ranking in some Gartner report. Unlike nearly every other article you will find from Google on this topic, it has had no input from any company's marketing or sales department.

How Gartner Uses Product Revenue as a Primary Ranking Factor

This is expressed in the following quotation from Ahmed Azmi.

“Consider Gartner’s ranking criteria where product revenue is used as the primary factor. In most cases, this revenue is almost entirely maintenance and support revenue generated from sales made decades ago. If you evaluate the products, you find many have not received any technical development over the past decade. This can mislead buyers into making bad business decisions. “

This ranks vendors high that extract the most from their customers. Under this method, Coach and Chanel’s purses would have a top-ranking….. based on their cost.

Under Gartner’s method, a big part of the rating is the item’s expense and support. If Gartner rated purses, this would push the most expensive handbags upward in the ratings, which is the exact vendors that pay Gartner the most money.

This pushes the highest cost items to the forefront!

And the more prominent vendors charge in support, the higher their revenue.

Under this method, PostgreSQL is a complete loser product. And as per usual, if you look at the Gartner MQ, the open-source items don’t seem to exist, as we covered in the article Can Anyone Make Sense of the ODMS Magic Quadrant? MongoDB is the exception for some reason.

How Gartner is the Fox News (or CNN) of Analysts

Fox News (or CNN) is essentially news designed by the top .005% of monied interests intended for what the poorly educated or at least weak-minded should think. Fox News spends its time trying to inform the US population to remove the protections they have against corporate power. To eliminate safety regulations, environmental regulations, to reduce taxes on the top .005%. to not apply any legal standards to the most wealthy.

Fox could be called the “Elitist News Network for Hillbillies.” Gartner’s MQs necessarily tell customers how they can make themselves entirely subordinate to powerful entities like Accenture, Deloitte, SAP, Oracle, and others, i.e., whoever will pay Gartner sing their praises. And most IT departments buy it. Many can’t see through it. Gartner publishes whatever the monied interests in software want the population to think. Like Fox News, they have complete disrespect for their readers.

They say,

“Look our readers are fools to be mislead. They will pay us top dollar and we will give them advice that is terrible for them but will line our pockets with gold.”

Gartner then turns to vendors and says..

“We lie to a very passive readership, pay us and we will include you in the lie. The more you pay the more we lie.”

As we covered in the article The Gartner Sales Boiler Room in Fort Meyers, down at the Fort Meyers sales center, they have hyper-aggressive sales meetings where pit bosses scream.

“get them to sign on the line that is dotted!!!!!!”

Would a real research entity have a boiler room operations for selling and constantly oversell and use such manipulative tactics to sell?

Conclusion

There used to be a commercial for the brand Memorex tapes, and the catchphrase was

“is it live or is it Memorex.”

For Gartner, this marketing jingle could be adjusted to

“is it mind control, or it is Gartner.”
