A Hadith states the following:

It was narrated that Jabir said: “A slave came and gave his pledge to the Messenger of Allah to emigrate, and the Prophet did not realize he was a slave. The his master came looking for him. The Prophet said: “Sell him to me.” So he bought him for two black slaves, then he did not accept the pledge of anyone after that until he had asked: Is he a slave.”

However, when you talk to Muslims — despite a history of slavery in Islam and the practice of modern slavery in the Muslim world, including very prominently in the Gulf States, Muslims will tell you that Islam is about freeing slaves.

The section reads how animals are sold for animals.

And then directly begins discussing slaves. It would be difficult to argue that this section did not see slaves as animals. The Hadith passage also states that black slaves are worth less than non-black slaves. This supports both viewing slaves as livestock, but also a strong racial disparity, that most Muslims lie about to kafirs, or unbelievers.
