Drug companies develop dosage calculations, but the nursing profession implements them. This video provides some context about how this is done in medicine. While there is no reason to watch it in its entirety, it is included as evidence for how drug dosages continue to be calculated.

The problem with manual calculation (which is the norm) is that it is inefficient and error-prone. With computers, there is no reason to continue having nurses perform dosage calculations by hand. All of our dosage calculators work by the individual answering questions within the calculator. After the questions are responded to, the dosage is automatically calculated. The individual is not required to perform any calculation.
